Dragon Boating – Veterans Dragon Boat USA
Our vision is to bring military veterans together, channeling their energy and focus toward propelling this massive vessel – and drawing from it energy, adrenaline and the sheer exhilaration of making the dragon fly across the water.
Membership
Free Membership for military veterans includes training/practice sessions both on and off the water, use of equipment (dragon boat, paddles, PFDs), and racing fees.
Practices
On-water practices (starting in May and wrapping up in October) are held Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6:00-7:30 PM, on the Connecticut River. All veterans are trained to paddle a dragon boat, including one-on-one training to hone technique, and as a full team to participate in races.
Indoor practices commence in November and run through spring, held Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6:00-7:30 PM. Indoor training includes ergometer rowing and paddling sessions, strength/weight workouts, and core workouts. To try to accommodate everyone’s busy schedule, dragon boaters are welcome during masters sessions and vice versa. Masters rowers meet Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30pm to 7pm and on Saturdays from 7:30am to 9am. Everyone is welcome, equipment provided. All practices and training are held at Holyoke Rows, 25 Jones Ferry Road, Holyoke MA 01040.
No experience is necessary – just the desire to learn a new sport alongside fellow veterans and become a member of the Veterans Dragon Boat USA team!
A waiver is required to participate. Any questions, please contact us at: vetdbusa@gmail.com or telephone 413-539-0068. For further information about the team, please visit http://www.veteransdragonboatusa.com or fb: Veterans Dragon Boat USA
